# Errors

> Understand API status codes and error responses.

The APIs use standard HTTP status codes and JSON response bodies.

| Status | Meaning                                                                    |
| ------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `400`  | The request could not be processed.                                        |
| `401`  | Credentials are missing, invalid, expired, or unavailable for the channel. |
| `403`  | The authenticated visitor cannot access the requested conversation.        |
| `404`  | The requested resource was not found.                                      |
| `422`  | Request validation failed.                                                 |
| `429`  | The request exceeded a rate limit.                                         |
| `500`  | An unexpected server error occurred.                                       |

Error responses include a human-readable `message`. Some authentication failures also include an `error` field.
