# Authentication

> Authenticate requests to the Connect API.

Create an API key from **Channel → Settings → API Key**. Send the channel access token as a bearer token:

Authorization: Bearer YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN
```

The authenticated channel becomes the actor for the request. Invalid or expired credentials, deleted channels, and inactive channels return `401 Unauthorized`.

Never expose a Connect API access token in browser code.
